What is that old saying?

The more things change the more they stay the same, or something like that.
My daughter (I think) has moved in. I'm not sure if I wasn't paying attention or she didn't explain herself well, but she brought all of her belongings and has moved in.
I'm ok with it (I think) since hopefully this way she can get her life straightened out and get back on track for an education and career. That is if she and Joseph don't kill each other. So far they are getting along much better than before but then again it has been several years and hopefully they have matured.

I really need to get in my sewing room (how long will I have a sewing room now?) and get some pieces made for some baby quilts. I have a new great nephew and he needs a soft quilt to cuddle.
I have a great nephew due any time who will need a quilt. I have a niece who is two and still no quilt. Boy, I am behind again!

Maybe I will get some sewing done this week...I hope, I hope.

She's here!

Isn't she so cute?

My daughter has come for a visit and we are so excited! For the next several days we will be visiting with her and doing some sight-seeing.
Look at that packed car! LOL

how handy

I found this egg cup one day while wandering around a cooking store and knew I could make a cool pin cushion/thread holder for my living room stitching. How cute.

Happy Happy

Happy St. Partick's Day! Today I get to celebrate my Irish heritage, although I don't know enough about it yet. I also get to celebrate my birthday. Forty seven years ago my mother gave birth to her fourth and last child. Daddy promised Moma a dozen roses if I was a boy and a new sewing machine if I was a girl. It seems strange to me how roses could compare to a new sewing machine but I guess in 1963 roses were not a common thing. With three daughters at home, Moma said Daddy really wanted a son, but after hearing what they were going to name me I am glad I was a girl! I don't think I look at all like an Edward Spencer. :)

I feel the need...the need for sewing

After being away from the sewing machine for a whole week and am SO ready to be back in my sewing room.
Ray and I took a trip to Houston. He went to meetings and classes and I went to my friend's house. I don't know about Ray but I had a great time!
Linda and I went junk shop hopping, antique looking and to Kohls where I found a great leather purse on clearance from $80 for only $16. Woo Hoo! Not only that but it is big enough for everything I need but not big enough to carry all the guy's junk!!
I got to see two of the cutest boys in the world. Linda and two grandsons that are too too cute, and smart!

Tomorrow I will be home and I am ready.

I'm at a loss

I have the top finished. I have the rockets ships quilted.

I wasn't sure about how I wanted them quilted, but after a whole day of looking and trying and thinking and almost tears I decided to just jump in and do a wavy line.
But now I am stumped on the stars. I have tried machine quilting the stars with glow in the dark thread...

It showed all of my bad skills. Can you imaging your bad skills not only showing off but also GLOWING?

I tried hand quilting around the star with glow in the dark thread. I'm still not sold.
What should I do??? I need input! HELP!
By the way, I tried stitching around the starts with a embroidery stitch on my machine but for some reason the machine didn't like it. I kept getting skipped stitches. I figured it wasn't meant to be.

Am I the last person?

To try these?
Getting ready to leave for a few days always gets me and Joseph into the store buying him all sorts of junk to eat while I'm gone. We saw these on the end shelf at the checkout counter and grabbed them. YUM! I love the Almond Joy ones, the York pieces are good, but not as good as the patties. BUT, they will be perfect for retreats when you have to be careful about not getting smudges on your friend's projects. :)

Oh how fun!

After reading my blogs the other day I went over to Pat Sloan's blog and discovered that she would have Carrie Nelson be her person of the hour. I really like both of these ladies but have a hard time with remembering things other than eating and sleeping.

Anyway today I figured out you can download the shows into iTunes!!! How cool is that? Now I will have something interesting to listen to on the drive to Houston besides Harry Potter and political talk radio. I like Harry Potter as much and the next HP fan, and more than the average person, but my husband's favorite is the 7th book. We have listened to the first 3/4 of the book on the last two trips. I really am not looking forward to it again.

Anyway to make as long story longer...I have downloaded the radio program (after listening to most of Carrie's) and have them ready for the trip. Yippee. This is promising to turn into a really cool thing. Pat Sloan is one of those fun quilters and it shows in her interviews. She wants to know all the stuff we want to know.
On to other things...I got the rocket ship top sandwiched and mostly quilted yesterday, but I'm at a standstill now. I quilted in the ditch with Bottom Line dark thread so you can't see if I made horrible mistakes, but now it just looks flat. I wanted to do some glow in the dark thread around the stars but the thread is really thick so it stands out against the dark background and not in a good way. My husband said to stitch in the ditch around the stars also and leave off the glowing thread. He also said it didn't look like a baby quilt either so I am not inclined to listen to him at this moment! LOL Usually he is right though. ( I just scored points!!) LOL
Once again the Dell guy has to work on the computer so I need to hurry with this.

design wall...

I'm still working on the great nephew quilt. I kind of got side tracked (surprise surprise) and just got back to it today. One of the reasons it took so long to get back was every piece is from a template and I HATE that. If I ever make another quilt like this I will redo the pattern so I don't have to use the templates.
It is turning out cute I think. I really wanted to get the top in one piece by the time I went to bed tonight so I could sandwich it and start quilting on it tomorrow. I found out Ray and I are headed to Houston on Saturday so this would be the perfect time to leave it with my sister in law (Grandma). We will see if I get it done.
I also have to go to the grocery store and stock the pantry and fridge for Joseph since he is staying home. Fortunately Joseph is pretty easy to please most of the time.
More later,
Diane
Edit**** I got it into a whole top!!!! Whew I'm tired so off to bed I go, but I go with a smile. Thank you all for your encouraging words I needed them!
