New Books

This is what Linda says at least.
I believe her. After over 30 years of friendship I don't think she will start telling lies now. Plus why would the great Dr lead me and my non-sagging THWAGG down the wrong road?

I ordered some books and they just arrived this morning. The excitement is too much so I will be perusing them asap!
Kim Brackett is such a sweet lady and I had such a great time at a retreat with her a couple of years ago. I already know of one pattern I want to make, but that was just a quick glance at the book. When I take time and look at every page I know there will be more.

I love Sally Schneider designs and I am always in need of a large bed quilt. It seems like everyone I know has a king size bed. You can't always just make a quilt larger and it look good. Most of the time I have to do a whole remake on EQ and sometimes I'm still not completely happy. I think I am going to love this book.

This is an older book, but I always seem to be drawn to it. While at Amazon the other day I saw it was less than $12 and it retails for $30 so I thought I would go ahead and get it. Every time I think about my Silver Jubilee quilt I think of applique so I will be studying this I'm sure.

An interest of mine. I would like to make a bracelet. If I love the process I wouldn't mind having a chain necklace. I bought some pretty and inexpensive jump rings the other day on sale and now I have the book. I hope I love it.

Last but not least:
Two of the gifts from Kari. They both smell wonderful! She bought me a lip balm and hand lotion that are out of this world good too.

What am I reading?

I did a lot of "reading" this last week. I listened to the rest of Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens. A very good book.
A proud father wants a son to join him in the family business. He has a daughter that he doesn't even look at or speak to. She is the mother's child.  The wife dies hours after giving birth to a son, and that is where the story starts.
The daughter who just wants to be loved, and the son who is born sickly and loved dearly by his sister. The proud arrogant father who remarries to a proud woman. How love, deceit, and pride affects everyone.

If you have never read any Dickens books I would recommend you give one a try. He has great characters and you can get really into the story.

When the rat's away the wife will play...

Is that how it goes?
Or is it when the husband is gone I don't have to cook for 4 days so I can sew my brains out with no worries. LOL I think that may be better...I don't always think the husband is a rat, just when I want to sew and he wants to eat or sleep on clean sheets. LOL

I forced myself to go to bed at a decent hour last night so at 1:30 am I crawled in the bed. It was only 1 1/2 hours passed my goal time, but still pretty good.

I have been listening to Charles Dickens' book Dombey and Son, and paper piecing some lopsided pineapples. Thought I have made quite a few, it shows how small a dent I've made when you stack the untouched next to the complete and the in progress. So far I have only made one that will be thrown out. I didn't put the edge of the fabric in the correct place and didn't notice until the block was complete. But I am not too upset, only one throw away after so many...pretty good in my book.

At what temperature do you turn on the heater? This shows 67, which is already warmer than the 64 it showed earlier. I know in the summer time I would give mostly anything for that temp, but today I am chilled. Last night I slept under two blankets and my special quilt my friends gave me. Normally I wouldn't have so much on the bed, but I was alone with no one to warm my cold feet so I needed the extra warmth.

Today's agenda:
wash the dogs bedding - half way there!
SEW...on my way!
There is homemade lasagna in the fridge, chicken cacciatore leftovers. Yum! I got this recipe from Judy Laquidara. It is delicious, you must give it a try. I am all set for food at least until Joseph discovers the lasagna. :)

Later gator,
Diane

What am I reading?

Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens.
I think I said before that I was given a subscription to Audible.com and I enjoy it every day.
I have read (listened to) a couple of Charles Dickens books and I really enjoy them. They take a bit of time to get into since he writes with so many characters and with great detail. I always remember what project I am working on when I hear the name of a book or I remember which book I was into when I look at a certain quilt.

Nicholas Nickleby is just getting interesting as I have been listening only a couple of hours and the characters are starting to show themselves. The main character is a kind young man who's father died and left the family with no money. The uncle (father's brother) is a Scrooge type character, and arranges for Nicholas to go to work at a boys boarding school being the school master's assistant.
So far, in true Dickens' fashion, nothing is working out as Nicholas was told it would.

If you like stories with great characters and lots of them you will probably like this book. Don't push it away because of the language or the length of the book. I have enjoyed every minute of each of the Dickens' books I have read. I think I will buy the books on audio CDs for my children so they can enjoy the stories as well. None of them have time to sit and read, but they all have commutes of over 30 minutes.

I listened to two books while driving to Houston and back and it sure made the time go faster.
